OT Michael McMonigle announces his commitment to Maryland, breaks down decision

Maryland has landed another commitment along the offensive line, this time from William Penn (PA) offensive tackle Michael McMonigle following his official visit. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound lineman chose Maryland over Syracuse as the Terps extended an offer to the emerging tackle target following the Big Man camp during the first weekend of June. "I really just liked everything I heard down there," McMonigle told IBG following his official visit. "It was just a great environment and the coaches treated me great. Also just the fact that it’s close to my home was nice as well." The Pennsylvania lineman becomes the third offensive line commit for Maryland this cycle, joining DeMatha (MD) offensive tackle Terez Davis and Central Dauphin (PA) OT Anthony Robsock, and ninth overall for Maryland this cycle. McMonigle becomes the second commitment of the day for Maryland, joining North Carolina wide receiver Josiah McLaurin. “I talked to coach Locksley afterward and got a little tour of the place, it was awesome. They offered me and talked to me about how my official visit will go on the 16th. He also knows my coach, he played with him in college so we talked about that a little bit,” McMonigle told IBG following his offer. Iowa State, Syracuse, Kent State, Army, Marshall, James Madison, Charlotte, Old Dominion and Delaware were among the schools to offer McMonigle but the Terps also had another connection to him. Head coach Mike Locksley played with McMonigle’s head coach, Russell Stoner, back in Towson and days after the new target picked up the offer, he returned to campus for an extended unofficial. “I asked a few questions, my dad asked a few questions. I’m really excited to talk to the players and ask them questions about how a day in their lives go because I think that’ll give me really good insight on the school itself,” McMonigle added. Billy Edwards also served as McMonigle's host through the weekend, giving him a chance to get a different perspective on the program. "He let me ask any question I wanted to, gave me straight forward answers about everything. He gave me really good insight on how everything is there from a player’s perspective." Wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer led the way as the area recruiter with offensive line coach Brian Braswell as the position coach as the staff keeps the momentum on the trail. “ called me a few times the last few weeks, texting me a good amount so he’s been good keeping in contact with me.” McMonigle joins the class as an offensive tackle as he and offensive line coach Brian Braswell were able to sit down during the official visit. "We had a good one-on-one time in the film room when I was down there this weekend." Related Links
