Maryland jumps into the picture for local forward

Gonzaga (DC) forward Alex Touomou saw his phone light up throughout the day on Thursday as college coaches began reaching out directly to the 6-foot-7 rising junior.

Yale, Delaware, Brown, Loyola (MD), Dartmouth, Towson, James Madison, Charleston, George Washington, Columbia, UMBC, Penn, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Princeton were all in contact while Maryland kicked the day off with his second high major offer.

“[David Cox] gave me a call early in the morning,” Touomou told IBG. “We’ve talked before. I went on an unofficial visit there. We talked and my team went to the Maryland team camp so we talked again. He told me I’ve been slashing a lot more. He likes that and he knows that I can shoot.”

Kansas State was the first high major to extend an offer back in September while College of Charleston and Loyola (MD) have jumped into the picture since, but the Terps have a clear appeal to Touomou.

“It’s nice. Somewhere nearby. It’s a good school for basketball and I know people who go there. I’ve been there for one men’s game, one women’s game. It’s just a really nice environment up there.”

Touomou also noticed something Willard as he watched the Terps practice. “He’s a good guy. When we were watching them practice, he was very authoritative. I see a lot of my coach now in him.”
