On the same day that Maryland men's basketball picked up its first portal guard pickup of the offseason, head coach Buzz Williams saw another depart.
Freshman guard Darius Adams is expected to enter the transfer portal after one season with the program. With the departure, Maryland will not return one member from its three-man 2025 high school recruiting class with Adams joining Aleks Alston and Jaziah Harper in the transfer portal.
The news comes hours after former Tennessee guard Bishop Boswell announced his transfer into Maryland with two years of eligibility remaining.
Adams, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound combo guard originally from New Jersey, averaged 10.8 points on 35.4% shooting from the field and 24.6% from three, along with 71.4% from the free throw line.
It marks the most notable departure of the offseason thus far, but not unexpected. In addition to NIL negotiations, whether Adams returned to the same role in year two was a question mark as head coach Buzz Williams and the staff rebuilt the roster ahead of a major offseason overhaul. Still, it's a notable departure after Adams became one of three former McDonald's All Americans to ink with the program in as many recruiting cycles. Maryland moved quickly to ink Adams after initially decommitting from UConn, while he joined Alston and Harper.
Adams enters the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining, while Maryland now has three vacant scholarships to fill.
