Tennessee guard transferring to Maryland men's basketball

One year after losing a guard to Tennessee, Maryland men's basketball has added a former Vols guard.

Head coach Buzz Williams now has the second transfer portal commitment in the fold with former Tennessee guard Bishop Boswell announcing his transfer to Maryland for the 2026-27 season.

Boswell, a 6-foot-4, 204 guard originally from Charlotte, NC, joins the program with two years of eligibility remaining. He announced his entry in the transfer portal on April 6, the first day possible after becoming a key piece during the Vols run into the Elite Eight, sharing the backcourt alongside former Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie.

Boswell is coming off a season where he proved himself as Tennessee’s best defender while averaging 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 42.7% from the floor, starting in all but one of the 34 games during the 2025-26 season. He made the jump after averaging under four minutes per game as a freshman.

His 13 points in the Round of 32 win vs. Virginia tied a career-high, one of four games with 13 points during the season, while he finished in double figures scoring in seven games.

Boswell joins Tomislav Buljan and Robert Jennings as early portal commitments for Maryland while the staff returns Andre Mills and Pharrel Payne, pending his medical waiver to be approved by the Big Ten, among others.

Boswell is ranked a four-star in On3’s transfer portal rankings, slotting in as the 29th-best point guard in the portal and 129th-best player overall.
