East Orange (NJ) wide receiver Josh Richards has announced his commitment to Maryland following his official visit.
The 6-foot-4 receiver committed to Maryland over offers from Syracuse, Temple and Wake Forest among others to become the latest receiver commit in the Terps’ 2023 class. Cornerbacks coach Henry Baker led the pursuit since Maryland became his second offer back in early September as Richards made it into campus for a spring practice back in mid-April. Richards was originally slated to officially visit Syracuse the weekend of June 24 before Maryland swooped in to change his mind.
Richards previously visited Syracuse, Rutgers and Wake Forest but becomes the latest commitment on the offensive side of the ball for Maryland as the Terps have been rolling in recent days. St. John's (DC) receiver Sean Williams, Loyola Blakefield tight end AJ Szymanski, Wise (MD) defensive back Mykel Morman, Jones (FL) tight end Dylan Wade and receiver Derrick Rogers have all announced.
As a junior, Richards helped East Orange finish with a perfect 13-0 record as he registered 544 yards and nine touchdowns on 31 catches before being named first-team All Offense. Richards also posted a pair of 100-plus receiving games, including 149 yards and three touchdowns on just five catches in a 35-0 win over West Side (NJ). He also registered 50 tackles and four interceptions as a two-way starter flashing at safety.
Richards is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3.
