Year two of the Buzz Williams may have officially started for Maryland men's basketball after welcoming its near-complete roster for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Head coach Buzz Williams hosted the revamped roster for a gathering at his home this past weekend, marking one of the first chances for the new-look roster to begin gelling together. Maryland added multiple pieces out of the transfer portal in former SEC guards, Bishop Boswell and DJ Wagner, while Croatian forward Tomislav Buljan is expected to anchor the vacant starting role in the frontcourt next to Pharrel Payne. Maban Jabrial, a high-upside 6-foot-9 wing, and veteran forward Robert Jennings were also among the offseason portal commitments.
Maryland's four-man recruiting class is also officially in College Park, including former five-star Baba Oladotun after being among the final cuts on the Team USA U-18 roster last week.
As for Payne, he is still awaiting an official ruling from the NCAA on a medical waiver for the 2026-27 season, though the impact center was among the players in attendance and was featured on the team's social media channels with the ongoing expectation that a second season in College Park materializes. The hope is he becomes the fourth returner on the roster alongside Guillermo Del Pino, Andre Mills and George Turkson.
While nearly all of the offseason additions were in attendance, one was absent as former Boston guard Mike McNair is expected to arrive in College Park this week. Maryland also still has one vacant scholarship to fill with Rakease Passmore not expected to return to the program for a second season despite his initial announcement that he is not transferring.
Maryland has announced its home and away opponents for the upcoming conference slate while the Players Era Tournament released its two brackets with Tennessee set to serve as the Terps' first opponent on Nov. 24. Maryland also announced its home game against Virginia is set for Friday, Nov. 13, while Maryland will travel to Capital One Arena to take on Georgetown with a date not yet announced.
