Maryland football snags WCAC transfer after official visit

Maryland has its fourth commitment out of official visit weekend.

DeMatha (Md.) three-star running back Terrance Grant Jr has announced his commitment coming off his latest visit to College Park, committing to Maryland over Washington and Notre Dame among others.

Grant told IBG he had a feeling Maryland would be the spot ahead of his official visit, adding, “I knew going on the visit was going to make my decision much more clear.”

Grant also becomes the first running back in Maryland's class, though the staff also hosted Oklahoma star Delijah Matthews on a visit this past weekend. Assistants Andre Powell and Aazaar Abdul-Rahim spearheaded efforts through the spring while Grant cited his close relationship with head coach Mike Locksley.

“The thing about Maryland is the coaches, players, students, they’re all great people,” Grant said. “It was just so many boxes I could check off, just so many things that were great for me personally.”

Maryland made its first pitch to grant after he transferred from Bishop Gorman to DeMatha affter his junior year.

“That was a good conversation I had with coach Locks because he said he loves recruiting coach’s kids, just not only as players but on his staff because they know how it goes, what to expect.”

Grant also expects to enroll early in College Park.

“The definite expectation is for me to go on and acclimate early. That’s just overall my biggest goal too, get to a program where I don’t have to wait to be a playmaker early. Maryland is somewhere I know I can do that.”

Grant now joins Alabama offensive lineman Caleb Canty, Texas safety Kevin Jackson and Florida transfer quarterback Will Jackson as the newest commitments coming out of the weekend as head coach Mike Locksley and the Terps look to continue momentum into today.
