Date set for 2026-27 meeting between Virginia, Maryland Basketball

One day after the Big Ten released conference opponents for Maryland men's basketball's 2026-27 regular season, another domino in the non-conference schedule dropped with a return date materializing into year two of the series against Virginia.

Virginia will head to College Park to take on Maryland on Friday, Nov. 13.

Maryland will look to snap a three-game losing streak against Virginia, including an eight-point loss in Charlottesville back on Dec. 20 despite being without Pharrel Payne. While Maryland went ont to struggle, the 'Hoos went on to finish 30-6 (15-3) in year one of the Ryan Odom era before the season ended with a 79-72 loss vs. six-seed Tennessee in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Virginia returns a handful of key pieces including Chance Mallory and Sam Luis while also adding both UC Irvine guard Jurian Dixon and Arkansas State guard Christian Harmon out of the portal. Four-star in-state Favour Ibe also committed to Virginia as part of the 2026 class days ago with Maryland a one-time contender under the previous staff.

Maryland will also travel to face Georgetown, though a date has yet to be announced, along with suiting back up in the Players Era Tournament alongside a 16-team field.

In Big Ten play, Maryland will host Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin. Maryland will also travel to face Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue and Washington. The Big Tena also announced that Maryland's three home-and-away opponents are Indiana, Michigan State and Rutgers.
