The next domino in Maryland men's basketball's 2026-27 regular season schedule officially materialized on Monday after the Big Ten announced conference opponents for the upcoming season.
Maryland will return to a home-and-home against both Indiana and Michigan State after facing both teams only once in year one of the Buzz Williams era. Maryland will also play Rutgers a second consecutive year in a home-and-home, while the home slate features a handful of intriguing matchups.
Illinois checked in at fourth in ESPN's way-too-early top 25 despite losing projected lottery pick Keaton Wagler, while both Nebraska and USC slotted inside the top 20 and the Badgers among 'next five' consideration. Michigan, who joins Illinois in the projected preseason top five, highlights the ten road games for head coach Buzz Williams as Maryland looks to end a two-game skid against the Wolverines.
Home: Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin
Away: Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Washington
Home/Away: Indiana, Michigan State, Rutgers
The news comes one week after Maryland's path in the Players Era Tournament was finalized with the team set to suit up once again during Thanksgiving week alongside a field that features Alabama, Gonzaga, Louisville, Tennessee and Miami (FL) among others. Maryland will also face Virginia at home and Georgetown at the Capital One Arena with the expectation that the program is much more competitive in year two of the Buzz Williams era compared to year one.
Former Arkansas point guard DJ Wagner, Tennessee guard Bishop Boswell and New Mexico forward Tomislav Buljan headline the six offseason portal additions while five-star Baba Oladotun headlines the current four-man high school recruiting class.
