QB Malik Washington sets first OV, CB Jayden Shipps talks spring schedule

Spalding (MD) three-star quarterback Malik Washington is in the process of finalizing his official visit schedule for April, and as he works on dates for the bulk of his top suitors, his first official visit is set.

Washington tells IBG his official visit to Virginia Tech is set to begin on April 12 as he works on dates for the rest of his final suitors. Washington released a top six in January including Maryland, Oregon, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech while UCF and UCLA are the two newest schools showing interest.

“I’m mostly focused on the six but I’ll never turn anything down,” Washington added.

Washington is also in the process of finalizing unofficial visits to his top schools for spring practices, which are set to begin in March. “I’ll try to get to a couple of practices to see what it’s really like. Of course officials are the glitz and glamour and all that stuff, but practices is where it really is.”

Washington is still targeting a commitment following his official visits with a decision expected in May or early June.

As for three-star cornerback Jayden Shipps, a long list of visits is now set.

Shipps will begin his round of visits with a trip to Clemson (March 9) before heading to Penn State (March 12), Virginia (March 19), NC State (March 22), Wake Forest (March 23), Maryland (March 26) then West Virginia (March 29). It won’t end there as the priority cornerback heads to Virginia Tech (April 2), Tennessee (April 3), Michigan State (April 4) then Pitt (April 9). Official visits will come next and Maryland is expected to receive an extended trip.

Both Malik Washington and Jayden Shipps are rated three-star prospects by On3, with Washington rated an 89 overall and Shipps rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3.
