McDonogh (MD) four-star athlete Jeff Exinor has made the transition from basketball to track season, where the 6-foot-1, 210-pound athlete is also fitting in lifts for football ahead of the spring.
“It’s pretty light, pretty manageable especially with homework time. It’s a lot more manageable than basketball season,” Exinor told IBG.
Jeff Exinor will hit the road in March where he’ll make his way to see several schools, though his upcoming visit is now up in the air.
“I had one planned for South Carolina on March 19 but their wide receiver coach just went to Georgia,” he said.
One school he knows he’ll get to? “I know I’ll be at Syracuse for their spring game,” as the Orange are in line to get their second visit since Fran Brown took over as head coach.
Then comes official visits in June, where Exinor has switched weekends around for his top suitors with plans now finalized.
Exinor’s first official visit will be to Penn State beginning on June 7, then he’ll make his way back to Syracuse for his official visit beginning June 14. For now, Maryland is set to be the last official visit beginning June 21, though Exinor is also working on dates with Wisconsin and Michigan State. Duke, meanwhile, hosted Exinor in the fall and has been back in recent contact with Manny Diaz now in the fold, while Florida is a new school showing recent interest.
Exinor admitted his junior season was when “I fell in love with receiver, I felt like I felt my identity there” with the bulk of his suitors eyeing him on the offensive side of the ball, though the Terps have kept it open for now.
“Maryland for sure, they’re keeping the athlete tag. Of course they want me to play receiver or whatever I’m comfortable, but they said whatever I shape up to be, I can play there. That’s very relieving. Penn State, Syracuse, Michigan State, they really want me as a receiver.”
Co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim made his way through McDonogh back in January as he’s been in touch, but offensive line coach Brian Braswell has been leading the charge for two years for the Terps. “It’s mainly coach Braswell. Like I set up my [official visit] with [Braswell],” Exinor said. “We could be closer but we’ve been talking since sophomore year so really the fact that he’s still there, we’re still in communication. Michigan State, they’re newer to the ball game so of course they’ve been on me more trying to get to know me more. But schools like Maryland and Penn State, they know that I’m interested and I know that they’re interested.”
Exinor is taking a patient approach heading into the spring where he’ll evaluate his interested suitors during the next eval period before trimming down.
“After my OVs, I plan on dropping a top five, top six. I’m really waiting for the next live period. There’s been some schools reaching out a lot like Florida. We’ve been talking a lot but they haven’t offered. You can talk all you want, but the schools that have offered me are the ones I’m really thinking about. So I’m waiting for that first week to drop my top six. After my OVs, I’m going to go to three then probably in mid-summer, I plan on committing.”
What’s the biggest question he’s asking heading into visits?
“Definitely my main concern is education, how much support is there? What classes do they offer? Education is important for me and my family. But also, if I commit, how do they plan to use me? What’s the scheme like? I could really care less about the NIL, the money stuff. I really want to know, regardless of the money, is this a place I feel can develop me for the NFL and life?”
Jeff Exinor is rated a three-star prospect by On3 and an 89 overall, along with a four-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247.
