Remainder of Maryland Football's 2022 Class Moves Onto Campus

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

Maryland welcomed seven midyear enrollees to capitalize heading into the fourth round of spring practice under head coach Mike Locksley, but the remainder of the 2022 class has joined the team after officially moving in over the weekend.

The latest enrollees include:

  • RB Ramon Brown

  • G/C Coltin Deery

  • QB Cam Edge

  • WR Perry Fisher

  • WR Leon Haughton

  • TE Preston Howard

  • OT Keon Kindred

  • WR Shaleak Knotts

  • OT Ja’Kavion Nonar

  • DE Daniel Owens

  • QB Jayden Sauray

  • SAF Lavain Scruggs

  • WR Octavian Smith

  • CB Lionell Whitaker

  • OLB Kellan Wyatt

While the early enrollees capitalized on extra reps during spring practice, the remainder of the 2022 signees were frequent visitors as they watched their respective position groups to soak in as much of the playbook and practice tempo as possible. “When he’s talking to Taulia [Tagovailoa], I’m right there listening in,” Sauray told Inside the Black & Gold back on April 28.

“Before spring practice started we were doing Zoom calls just learning the basics of the offense. Sometimes I’ll ask questions to [Elijah] Brooks and the other running backs to make sure I have everything correct in my notes,” former four-star Ramon Brown added. “Just being able to be in the meeting room taking notes and learning from my position coach and the other [running backs] helps out a lot and is preparing me for when I report in June.”

Freshman safety Gavin Gibson clocked in as the fifth-fastest player on the roster this offseason, behind Deonte Banks, Tai Felton, Jakorian Bennett and Tarheeb Still, and was among the early enrollees ahead of his first round of offseason workouts. “Classes are all planned out, everything is scheduled and in place to make sure we’ll be successful. The first week was pretty tough getting changed from high school lifts to college lifts,” Gibson said back in early February. “I’ve been doing better getting acclimated. I’m lifting more weight now.”

Maryland’s 2022 class finished 40th in the national On3 team rankings and eighth in the Big Ten with Jaishawn Barham, Andre Roye and Ramon Brown leading the way. “We signed a lot of high-quality kids today and as I've said, to our staff, when you look at this class as a whole, and I think I've said this to each one of these guys, I really do see this class being kind of the DNA of the player-driven culture that we're working to create here,” Locksley said during the early signing period. “There's a number of these guys that have served as team captains, quite a few come from programs where they built their high school programs from the ground up, similar to what we're doing here at Maryland, and a lot of these guys, you know, have shown tremendous leadership qualities.

Maryland announced a trio of transfer additions earlier this month in defensive linemen Henry Chibueze and Quashon Fuller alongside former Wake Forest quarterback Billy Edwards and all three have already been involved in offseason workouts inside the Jones-Hill House. Transfer additions Jacob Copeland and Chad Ryland have been with the team since the start of spring practice.
