Maryland makes the final five for Freedom (VA) RB Jeff Overton

Maryland is in hot pursuit of DeMatha (MD) running back Bud Coombs and will host Quince Orchard (MD) running back Iverson Howard for Tuesday's practice, and on Monday, another local running back kept the Terps in the mix with Freedom (VA) three-star Jeff Overton taking the next step with a final group. Overton, a 5-foot-9.5, 190-pound running back, included Duke, Maryland, Ohio State, Virginia and Virginia Tech with visits on the horizon. https://twitter.com/JeffreyOverton1/status/1777302329860948429 Overton is expected to kick off his official visit schedule with a trip to Ohio State beginning May 31 before heading to Virginia the following weekend. Maryland is set to host the Virginia playmaker the weekend of June 14 before wrapping up the month with an official visit to Virginia Tech the weekend of June 21. The Virginia native has made himself a familiar face in College Park over the last two years, visiting for two games in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson and running backs coach Latrell Scott have led the way with Overton as Maryland has prioritized Overton through his junior season. The three-star prospect is coming off yet another productive campaign that ended in a state championship following a 42-34 win vs. Highland Springs. Overton dominated through his junior season en route to being named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Virginia, after posting 2,329 yards and 44 total touchdowns while also averaging over eight yards per carry in the state championship game as a junior. In his three seasons of high school football, Overton has rushed for nearly 6,600 yards and 102 touchdowns. Jeff Overton is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3, sitting as the 16th-best prospect in Virginia and 40th-best running back in the 2025 class. Related Links
