Beau Brade projected to land in NFC East, DJ Glaze meets AFC North team

The 2024 NFL Draft is set for April 25 in Detroit with another group of Terrapins looking to hear their names called to begin their professional careers. After sending four players to this year’s combine and 11 over the last two years, former Maryland safety Beau Brade has been the consensus top pick and the latest NFL.com mock draft has him landing close to home.

Brade is projected to land in the fourth-round with the Philadelphia Eagles using the 102nd overall pick on the former Maryland star safety, which would pair him alongside Reed Blankenship and CJ Gardner-Johnson in Philadelphia. With a need for the Eagles to improve a secondary that sat among the worst teams in the league in opposing QB passer rating (97.6) and passing touchdowns allowed (35), Brade is set to become the second drafted safety out of Maryland over the last three years.

Brade started all 25 games he was available for over the last two seasons, leading the team in tackles in both seasons along with ranking second on the team with six pass breakups as a senior. After opting against testing at the NFL combine, Brade was among the double-digit participants for Maryland’s pro day last month as he looks to entrench himself among the best draft-eligible strong safeties.

“I’m proud to be here with my guys, getting to workout together. Today, I didn’t really do as well as I want to do, but I know what I’m capable of, you know, you can still watch the film, you know what I’m capable of, the teams do too,” Brade said after his pro day. “So I mean, I’m not really worried about that. The process itself is getting ready for that big day. You know, it’s been great. It’s been amazing. I’ve met some great people, you know, I feel I’m getting better with my craft and my game itself. And you know, that big day is just the start of my career.”

While Tarheeb Still, Gottlieb Ayedze and Tarheeb Still will look to become day three selections, former Maryland offensive lineman DJ Glaze was among the top-30 visits for the Baltimore Ravens. Glaze was the prize of this offseason’s stay-or-go decisions with a chance to solidify Maryland’s starting offensive line for the 2024 season but he opted to forgo his final year of eligibility in hopes of becoming the third offensive lineman drafted out of Maryland over the last two seasons.

Had Glaze opted to return to Maryland, the chance for the North Carolina native to shift to the interior offensive line loomed large with a chance to further improve his draft stock as head coach Mike Locksley evaluated Glaze’s best fit.

“DJ’s played all four positions, both sides of guards on both sides, tackles on both sides and people don’t know this, but I actually approached him a year ago and talk to him about after our season a year ago saying, look, if you have a COVID year, let’s do some research. Thought about moving him to center because I think he can play center in league and just that versatility and then his athleticism and his durability over his career here at Maryland, where he’s been one of those guys that’s been a pretty much a four-year starter for us over the years. Definitely a guy that I think could help a bunch of NFL teams, not just the Ravens.”
