Maryland Football picks up second 2027 commitment of the day, lands OL Caleb Canty

Maryland football has its second commitment of the day and fifth of the cycle after Alabama offensive lineman Caleb Canty announced his commitment on day two of his official visit.

Canty, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle, committed to Maryland over Oklahoma State while Memphis and South Alabama were also in the mix to host him for an official visit.

Yet Maryland cemented their offer on Friday after getting a chance to see the full staff, materializing weeks after getting to know multiple assistants on the staff. Wide receiver assistant Derek Kief spearheaded efforts for Maryland while offensive line coach Damian Wroblewski established a connection and stayed consistent ahead of his first and now final official visit.

“They see me as a tackle but they want me to get some guard reps in the season and I don’t have any problem with that. I actually like guard more than tackle, I’m just the tallest on my team so I play tackle,” Canty previously told IBG.

This weekend marked his first visit to College Park while Canty previously told IBG he fits as a tackle.
