Maryland beat out several Power Four teams to land Texas safety Kevin Jackson

Nearly 24 hours in, Maryland football has its first commitment of OV weekend with Texas safety Kevin Jackson in the fold.

Jackson, a 6-foot, 175-pound safety, committed to Maryland over Arkansas, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Maryland went in-home with Jackson, who made this weekend his first visit to College Park, as assistant Zac Spavital spearheaded efforts with the Texas native. Jackson becomes the third commitment out of Texas in as many recruiting cycles, joining interior offensive lineman Day'Jon Moore from the 2026 class and wide receiver Davion Vanderbilt out of Channelview in the 2027 class.

“He knows a lot of my high school coaches and they know him really well and he was just telling me it’s a really good experience to go up and see what they’re about,” Jackson told IBG. “I feel like it’s a great relationship, it’s been a good start, he’s consistent with me and he does a good job getting to know me and my family.”

Maryland producing multiple NFL prospects in the defensive back room under Mike Locksley also resonated with Jackson early in the pursuit.

“They produce a lot of DBs in the NFL and him just knowing all my high school coaches, that really sticks out. My coaches all say he’s a really good guy. He communicates well and takes care of his guys from a football aspect,” he added.

Jackson also runs track where he has explored becoming a two-sport athlete in college with a realistic path to do so, while he’s coming off an impressive junior season in football after notching four pass breakups, 32 total tackles and a pair of TFLs.

Jackson joins Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania RB Mekhi Graham and Virginia native Levi Babin in Maryland's 2027 class.
