After news of the upcoming non-conference slate was officially announced this week, details of the future four-year series between Maryland football and Virginia Tech have been amended.
Maryland will host Virginia Tech this upcoming season on Sept. 19, 2026 for a 7:30 PM kickoff in College Park, but the return visit to Blacksburg will now materialize on Sept. 15, 2029 with the four-year series amended to now two meetings over the next four years. A source told IBG that Virginia Tech will pay Maryland to adjust the series after news of the ACCmoving to a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2026.
Maryland will now face Baylor the next two seasons, first in College Park on Sept. 18, 2027 before headed to Waco on Sept. 16, 2028 to complete the series.
The news was first reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN with rumblings the Terps were looking to schedule a future matchup against the Big 12 team floating over the last month.
A lot has changed since the last time the two teams met after Maryland beat Baylor, 20-6, in 1955 before the Bears got revenge in a 14-0 finish the following season, the road team winning each time. It gives Maryland another chance to expand the program's footprint and head back to play a game in the state for the first time since beating the Texas Longhorns, 51-41, in Austin to open the 2017 season.
Baylor has finished above .500 in two of the six seasons under head coach Dave Aranda, including a 5-7 finish in 2025. One of those seasons included a Sugar Bowl appearance and 12-2 finish to cap off the 2021 season, but Baylor is 22-28 with two bowl losses since then.
