Gadsden County (FL) three-star offensive tackle Lamar Williams has been hearing from Maryland for much of the past year, but this weekend marked his first trip to College Park as the 6-foot-5, 271-pound tackle made his way north for his first visit to College Park alongside his mom. And after spending the weekend with assistant Brian Braswell and coordinator of player personnel Marcus Thomas, Williams left with a clear impression that he’s a top target in College Park. “I loved it. The coaches were showing me love and they made it clear I'm a big priority for them,” Williams told IBG. “I was with coach Bras and coach Marcus and the players, Dumervil. is a good coach. He's been wanting me to get up here show me everything so it was good getting a chance to see everything he's talking about.” While Williams was able to get an in-depth tour of campus and the facilities, Friday’s academic presentation caught the three-star’s eyes. “The education part. They were talking about their mentor program so I wouldn't have to just rely on football, I can take advantage of the school and take care of the life after football.” His visit also gave Williams a chance to meet head coach Mike Locksley, along with reconnect with lead recruiter Brian Williams, who has been able to build off his relationships at Gadsden County to form a close relationship with Williams and his mother. With other targets from Florida like Ben Beymer and Donta Simpson on campus, it didn’t take long for Williams to get comfortable in a new setting. “Coach and the players, there’s a lot of people who come from the same or similar background to me so I felt like I could relate to everyone really easily,” Williams added. Williams kicked the 2025 cycle off with a verbal commitment to in-state Miami (FL) before parting ways in the spring, reopening his recruitment. Heading into the summer, Maryland entrenched itself in Williams’ new top group alongside Florida State and UCF, following his official visit. “They're in my top three right now. They took care of everything, all the questions I had so I feel good about them. I'm planning on making the trip during the season or maybe in July.” Lamar Williams is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, checking in as the 88th-best prospect in Florida.
