Maryland football has landed its second local commitment in as many days as Bullis (MD) three-star Javonte Williams has announced his decision to stay local.
Williams, a 6-foot-4 tight end, committed to Maryland over NC State and Pittsburgh and joins local commits Damon Hall, Brayden Marko and Jianni Davis at the position.
“I feel that way. The whole way, they kept in contact. Coach [Mike] Locksley talked to me a lot, coach [James Thomas] talked to me a lot. They really wanted me to stay home and told me that they need me,” Williams told IBG.
Maryland jumped into the picture with an offer back on April 1 and was the first school to host him for an official visit beginning on May 29 with assistant James Thomas spearheading efforts alongside analysts Jarrod James and Tim Morris.
“I really liked it. I feel important there. They verbally said I’m wanted before I left,” Williams told IBG following the extended visit. “Coach Jarrod said I don’t want you to leave with any false feelings. I love you. I want you in my program and I want you. He didn’t leave any uncertainty about it.”
Williams joins a Maryland class with now eight of its nine commits hailing from within the DMV, a feat not lost on Maryland’s newest pledge. “We need more.”
As a junior, Williams recorded 35 catches for 679 yards and six touchdowns. The in-state pledge also runs track at Bullis where he posted a 14.95 second time in the 110 meter hurdles this spring while also teaming up with Vanderbilt pledge Chris Tangelo among others in the 4x110 meter hurdles for a first place finish last year.
Williams joins edge Zion Elee, tight end Damon Hall, defensive back Hakim Satterwhite, safety Zahir Cobb, safety Khmari Bing, tight end Jianni Davis, tight end Brayden Marko and inside linebacker Kaden Carter as verbal commits in Maryland’s 2026 class.
