Days after hosting their first 2026 official visitor, Maryland men's basketball and head coach Buzz Williams have their first 2026 commitment in the fold in Lufkin (TX) three-star Austin Brown.
Brown committed to Maryland with Texas A&M, Iowa and Minnesota among the schools involved. The relationship between Brown and the Maryland staff dated back to the three-star's freshman season while the lone official visit he's taken other than Maryland was to Texas A&M when Buzz and his staff were still with the Aggies. Those deep ties have maintained momentum on the trail as Maryland looks for the local prospects to supplement the deep established ties in the Lone Star state.
“It was my first time so it was a really cool place just checking everything out,” Brown told IBG. “We went on some tours around the school, around the campus to check things out. It’s pretty great up there," he told IBG following the visit. Brown also got a chance to take a look at the ongoing development of the Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center, expected to be available for the start of the 2025-26 season. “It has great coaches and it’s a great program, great history.”
Head coach Buzz Williams was also courtside to watch Brown at the TABC Showcase two weeks ago where the Texas native added a pair of 20-point games and cemented himself as one of the best outside shooters in the 2026 class.
