Maryland football has added its eigth commitment in the 2026 class after Bishop McNamara (Md.) athlete Jianni Davis went public with his decision.
Davis, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound target, projects on the offensive side of the ball as an H-back/tight end, giving him a chance to play the same position that his dad, Vernon Davis, once starred in back in in College Park.
Davis previously had an official visit to East Carolina scheduled beginning June 12 before tentatively moving it to the fall, but all eyes have been on Maryland for the local athlete since his recruitment kicked off during his junior year. Howard, Campbell, Marshall, East Carolina and Albany are among the other schools who offered the two-way starter.
Assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim spearheaded Maryland’s recruitment with defensive analyst David Brownlee chipping in and head coach Mike Locksley remaining involved in the pursuit throughout.
“I definitely love it up there. It’s always a good time up there seeing everyone. I was watching pretty much everything, keeping an eye on everybody but I was watching the tight ends a little bit closer,” Davis previously told IBG.
As a junior, Davis posted 40 tackles, 13 TFLs and four sacks as he now joins Gonzaga (DC) TE Brayden Marko, Lamar County (Ga.) LB Kaden Carter, St. Albans (DC) DB Zahir Cobb and St. Frances (Md.) quartet – edge Zion Elee, TE Damon Hall, SAF Khmari Bing and CB Hakim Satterwhite - in Maryland’s 2026 class.
