Decision day arrives for local TE Javonte Williams

After trimming down to a final three, Bullis (MD) three-star Javonte ‘JJ’ Williams is set to announce his commitment at 1 PM today.

Williams, a 6-foot-4 tight end target, is down to Maryland, NC State and Pittsburgh after officially visiting each school. Rutgers was also involved while an official visit to Indiana the weekend of June 20 didn’t come to fruition with the three regional schools under consideration.

Pittsburgh has been the school on him the longest and hosted him for an official visit the weekend of June 6 before trekking to NC State the following weekend where the Wolfpack have made themselves a top contender in the race through the spring. Maryland jumped into the picture in April and with assistant James Thomas teaming up with analysts Jarrod James and Tim Morris, Maryland set the bar for the rest of his official visits after making the trip to campus beginning May 30 with TE Leon Haughton among his player hosts.

“I really liked it. I feel important there. They verbally said I’m wanted before I left. Coach Jarrod said I don’t want you to leave with any false feelings. I love you. I want you in my program and I want you. He didn’t leave any uncertainty about it,” Williams told IBG following the visit.

Maryland already has a pair of tight ends in the fold after Bishop McNamara (MD) three-star Jianni Davis became the latest to join the fold on Monday afternoon, months after SFA TE Damon Hall committed as Davis became the eighth commit in the 2026 class.

As a junior, Williams caught 35 passes for 679 yards and six touchdowns. He’ll team up alongside Clemson WR pledge Connor Salmin and Vanderbilt DB pledge Chris Tangelo for Bullis and head coach Skyler Springs, son of longtime NFL cornerback Shawn Springs, this fall.
