Oakdale (MD) four-star defensive end Dominic Nichols followed through on his initial summer plans and made his way to campus with teammate Evan Austin for Maryland's win over Michigan State. Nichols arrived with his parents and siblings where he was able to connect with the recruiting staff, but tight ends coach Mike Miller also got extensive one-on-one time with Nichols as the four-star met the family of his lead recruiter inside Jones-Hill House. The return visit was another chance for Maryland to change the trajectory in his recruitment and Nichols was glad he made it to campus. "It was good being able to get up there for a game. I’m trying to come for another one, I’m just not sure yet," he told Inside the Black and Gold. "They're pretty high on the recruiting list. I think they’re doing pretty well this season so far." After arriving on campus roughly two hours prior to kickoff, Nichols was already familiar with the facilities but got another quick tour before meeting with the coaching staff. "I talked to coach Locksley and coach Williams right before the game. He just told us to come down as much as we can, really." But Miller is leading the charge as they've enjoyed a close relationship. "We probably talk a couple of times every week. We’re really close, I like coach Miller a lot." Nichols left SECU Stadium at the beginning of the fourth, but he was able to catch a few highlights as Maryland held the Spartans to 75 yards of total offense in the second half. "I did see a couple sacks in there so that was good to see." While Nichols will look to return to Maryland, he'll check out another Big Ten school later this month. "I will be back at Penn State for the white out game."
