Four-star LB enjoys “probably one of the best visits I’ve been on to Maryland”

2024 Pallotti (MD) four-star linebacker Gabriel Williams is no stranger to Maryland after attending every home game so far this season, but his most recent trip on Saturday stuck out above the rest.

“That was probably one of the best visits I’ve been on to Maryland,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. “It was fun. I was bonding with some of the guys that are already committed there. We went over to the student section, to the Michigan State side. It was just a fun game, we were just enjoying everything and talking to Maryland fans. It’s getting better and better every time I go. Every time Maryland wins, it gets better.”

Williams also took note of Maryland’s linebackers. “Jaishawn [Barham] and all them, we watched them,” Williams added. Although he got to campus just an hour before kickoff, Williams stayed for the full game and got a chance to soak in the atmosphere. “I talked to everybody, after the game coach Locks, coach Lance. I was in the locker room talking to all the players like Rakim [Jarrett], talked to a lot of players. It was cool. I heard them sing the Maryland fight son and throwing water on everybody so it was a cool vibe.”

Williams also got a chance to sit down with head coach Mike Locksley. “Coach Locks is my guy so it’s always a good time talking to him.” What was the message? “He said why go somewhere else when you can just build it here? Why would I go play in somebody else’s home when I can do it in my own?” Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson and running backs coach Elijah Brooks are working together to keep Williams home. “I talk to coach Brooks but also coach Lance so it’s a mixture of both of them. But when I’m on campus, it’s a mixture of everybody so the assistant, the recruiters like Grace [Hildebrandt] and Patty [Maye Ohanian] and all of them. I got to meet [Gary Wortham] so I talked to all of them and they gave me good treatment.”

Where does Maryland stand with him?

“I like Maryland but I don’t think I’m going to commit just yet. I think my junior season is going to be one hell of a season so anything is possible, but Maryland is definitely going to be one of my top schools.”

Williams will look to return to Maryland, visit Virginia Tech and plans to visit Penn State for their White Out game.

Williams is rated a four-star prospect according to On3’s composite rating, but is rated an 89 overall and the ninth-best prospect in Maryland next cycle.
