Virginia OL Mason Wade Impressed with Maryland Football’s Offense After Visit

Loudoun Valley (VA) offensive lineman Mason Wade is no stranger to College Park after he’s unofficially visited before and returned to campus for the spring game. Saturday marked his first full gameday experience at Maryland, though, as he and his dad spent nearly all day on campus. The 6-foot-4.5, 284 pound lineman got a tour of the indoor facilities before spending time with inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson and head coach Mike Locksley.

As it turns out, Thompson made a short trip from Tuscarora to watch Fletcher Westphal over to Loudoun Valley to watch Wade on Friday night.

“It wasn’t too short. We talked a little bit before I had my meeting with coach Locksley because coach Thompson came to watch my game [Friday] night,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. His meeting with Locksley gave him a different perspective. “It was really good to hear him talk about the family atmosphere.”

Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson is leading the efforts as his area recruiter but offensive line coach Brian Braswell has chipped in too. “The past few days, we’ve been talking more and the relationship has been getting stronger. Me and coach Braswell have done calls and stuff and our relationship is getting stronger too, so I’d say it’s going good.”

Wade then got a chance to watch Maryland top Michigan State to move to 4-1 as he kept an eye on his position group. “I was just focused on the offensive line to see what kind of holes they made for the run game, the protection that they gave the quarterback to make his throws very well.”

Wade plans to visit Clemson, Michigan, Duke, Virginia Tech and James Madison this fall but what’s his interest level in Maryland?

“After today I’d say I really like it. It’s a high-scoring offense, quarterback was good and after talking to coach Locksley, learning how it’s a family environment and stuff like that was good.”

Wade plays left tackle in high school but projects as a guard at the next level.

He is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by On3, sitting as the 26th-best prospect in Virginia.
