Maryland has picked up its third commitment in the 2025 cycle as Central Catholic (PA) defensive lineman Braheem Battles has gone public with his pledge. Battles, a 6-foot-2, 316-pound defensive, picked up the offer last month with defensive line coach Brian Williams leading the way while offensive coordinator Josh Gattis was the area recruiter for the defensive lineman. Temple also extended an offer to Battles, who was named first team all-state as a defensive tackle as a junior. https://twitter.com/BraheemBattles/status/1760000664040570934 "Just relationships," Battles told IBG about why Maryland was the pick. "The relationship with the staff was a huge part of my recruiting process and they were recruiting me early in my football career so I was already fond and big on the staff. I just felt like it was the best fit." Battles made his way to College Park for the Indiana game last season before picking up the verbal offer back on Jan. 22. "I feel like Maryland was the best spot for me." Shortly after giving head coach Mike Locksley his commitment on Tuesday afternoon, Battles went public with his pledge. "First and foremost, all glory and honor to the most high for giving me this wonderful opportunity to do what I love the most play the game of football. Through my journey there has been highs and lows but no matter what I never backed down. Thank you to everyone who helped me get to this point for all the love & support. I want to thank my mother, father & little brothers for being there every step of the way and guiding me when I was lost. Without you guys, none of this would be possible. Thank you Caoch Locks, Coach Gattis, Coach B Will & Coach Pgreat for this amazing opportunity. With that being said, I'm excited to announce that I will be taking my talents to the B1G and continuing my athletic and academic career at THE University of Maryland," Battles wrote on X. Battles becomes the first pledge along the defensive line for Maryland after position coach Brian Williams looks to restock the unit. Battles joins cornerback Jett White and offensive guard Kahlil Stewart in Maryland's 2025 class heading into March. Braheem Battles is not yet rated by On3.
