Maryland was able to start hot on both sides of the ball, with the offense opening the game with a touchdown while the defense registered a pair of sacks to force an early punt. But Northwestern found its groove and four consecutive scoring possessions put Maryland in an early deficit. Drops loomed large in Saturday’s loss, while the unforced, post-play defensive penalties reemerged as Northwestern controlled the game from seemingly start to finish.
Maryland was able to generate one final opportunity with just over three minutes remaining, but an overthrow led to an easy Northwestern interception, sealing the Terps’ defeat and pushing them to 5-3 (2-3).
