Maryland Men’s Lacrosse Starts off 2024 Cycle by Landing Pair of Five Stars

On September 17th, the Terps snagged the top attackman of the 2024 recruiting class Spencer Ford. Ford is a Maryland native that goes to Boys Latin School in Baltimore. Ford is ranked fifth nationally making him the Terps’ highest commit so far. Inside Lacrosse wrote that “Ford’s package includes high composure and poise that allows him to constantly play under control. He does a great job reading the defense and exposing them for the opening. Defenses have to constantly account for him off-ball when a quick lapse is all he needs to make you pay.”

The Terps also snagged another Maryland native from Loyola Blakefield right outside Baltimore in Peter Laake, who was teammates with a Terps 2022 commit AJ Larkin. Laake is ranked 16th in the country and is the top defender of the 2024 class as well. Laake is described as a “big athletic defender with a ton of experience defending high caliber offenses. His size and strength lets him soak up space off-ball as well as on up as a cover” according to Inside Lacrosse. So far the Terps have seven total commits from the 2024 class with five of them being ranked in the Top 50 according to Inside Lacrosse. Other commits that are ranked include:

Johnny Gardner, an attackman from Gonzaga College High School in DC ranked 14th nationally.
Tyler Coryea, a Goalie from Western Reserve Academy in Ohio ranked 44th nationally
John Draley, Midfielder from St. John’s College High School in DC ranked 49th nationally

To finish up the Terps 2024 class so far the Terps have also landed Another four star in Kyle Eggebraten of Culver Academy in Indiana and attackman Jack Shultz from Ridgewood High School in New Jersey. Shultz is not yet rated by Inside Lacrosse but if the Terps want him I have a good feeling he is a very solid player.

After only having two ranked recruits according to Inside Lacrosse in the past two classes, the Terps are off to a strong start coming off an undefeated season capped off by winning a national title. With the 2024 cycle just getting started, look for more big players to commit in the next few months.
