Maryland makes top eight for blue-chip DL Trent Wilson

Four-star defensive lineman Trent Wilson has been a top priority for Maryland over the last year as co-defensive coordinator Brian Williams leads the way, and the staff saw those efforts pay off on Tuesday as the blue-chip lineman released his top eight.

Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M made the updated top group Wilson, ranked the top prospect in Maryland. Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State and Texas A&M are the lone schools to make the cut and were also included in Wilson’s top twelve back in August.

Wilson, who made the early season transfer from St. Frances (MD) to Wise (MD), made his way to campus for multiple offseason visits heading into his junior season and returned for games against Charlotte and Illinois this past season. Wilson also returned to campus last month where he and four-star linebacker Marco Wilson took in a Terps’ basketball game while the staff put the finishing touches on the 2024 class. Wilson is set to return to campus for another unofficial visit on Feb. 3 as new co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim teams up with Brian Williams to keep the top target local.

“We just talked about how he’s going to turn around Maryland and how I’m a big prospect for them,” Wilson said about his chance to sit with head coach Mike Locksley during his visit earlier this season.

Trent Wilson is rated a four-star prospect and the 26th-best prospect in the country, according to On3.
