Former JMU assistant Damian Wroblewski expected to join Maryland staff

Maryland is expected to hire former James Madison assistant Damian Wroblewski as its new offensive line coach. Pete Thamel of ESPN was first to report the news.

A source told IBG that Wroblewski will join the program as an assistant with Brian Braswell retained as the offensive line coach. Josh Gattis is expected to take over the wide receiver room with head coach Mike Locksley in the quarterback room.

Wroblewski is expected to join the program after five seasons at James Madison where he was the only assistant retained by new head coach Bob Chesney.

During his time at JMU, Wroblewski coached three players to a combined four All-America honors, while he served as the team’s acting head coach for the bowl game.

“He never lets us get down energy-wise,” redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Josh Toner said about Maryland’s new assistant coach. “He’s always on us to keep us ready to go. I mean, he’s a great coach. He coaches the crap out of us every single day. There’s never a dull moment.”

Damian Wroblewski previously spent time at Elon, Rutgers, Stony Brook, Penn and Bryant and mentored former NFL offensive lineman Willie Colon during his time at Hofstra. Wroblewski also worked with former lineman Kaleb Johnson during his time at Rutgers as the guard when on to play for multiple teams before ending his pro career in the CFL in 2019.

Maryland had one vacancy along its offensive staff after former wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer was announced as the new director of high school relations at Virginia Tech earlier this month. With news of Wroblewski’s expected arrival, Maryland’s coaching carousel is now complete. Now, Wroblewski will team up with Brian Braswell to bolster its offensive line that allowed 29 sacks last season, including 23 during conference play.

Maryland will open its first spring practice on Tuesday, March 26.
