IMG Academy (FL) closed out its regular season with a convincing 27-16 win over St. Frances inside SECU Stadium on Friday night. With coaches from Penn State, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Maryland including head coach Mike Locksley along the sidelines, the Ascenders dominated in the trenches as the front seven was able to rattle 2024 four-star quarterback Mike Van Buren as a pick-six to close the first half widened the margin.
One reason for IMG’s defensive success was outside linebacker Cam Lenhardt, who routinely found himself around the ball. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound linebacker has played all across IMG’s defense over the last year to enhance his versatility. “I played [defensive] tackle this year and I’m really an outside linebacker. I played middle linebacker in the spring so I’ve just added to my versatility,” he told Inside the Black and Gold following the win. “I can take that anywhere at the next level.”
Since backing off his pledge to Nebraska in mid-September after Scott Frost’s dismissal, the high three-star prospect has entertained a variety of schools with a handful staying in the mix.
“Duke, Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan State, and Nebraska a bit,” Lenhardt added. Maryland is also among the schools in pursuit as Friday night marked the second time this fall that the staff laid eyes on Lenhardt. “Coach Lance [Thompson], that’s my guy,” Lenhardt added. “He came down in the spring and I was playing MIKE, so just that versatility. He likes that I can play multiple positions.”
Maryland was in pursuit of Lenhardt back in the spring and were talking about an official visit before moving ahead with a top three excluding the Terps. With a need to set the edge, Lenhardt is among the outside linebacker prospects under consideration and could host him for a visit. For now, he’ll officially visit Georgia Tech the weekend of December 9 but have a schedule shortly.
“After this, I’m setting stuff up. I’m probably going to set something up with coach Lance. I was going to set something up before I committed to Nebraska.”
Lenhardt is planning to sign in December and enroll in January.
He is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 71st-best edge prospect.
