Florida lineman staying patient after pair of June official visits

Edgewater (FL) three-star defensive end Josh Alexander-Felton made his second trip to Maryland when the 6-foot-4, 240-pound lineman made his way to College Park for his official visit over the weekend.

Maryland has long been a school in pursuit of Alexander-Felton with outside linebacker coach James Thomas leading the charge on the three-star target. This weekend also gave Alexander-Felton a chance to spend time with new defensive lineman Jordan Phillips as his host throughout the weekend in what proved to be an “eye-opening experience.”

“I just wanted to kind of get the feel for it if it was home,” Alexander-Felton told IBG. “Maryland is a long way from Florida so I just wanted to see if they had the vibe, the feeling. I was keeping my eyes open, paying attention to everything, every little thing. So I can most definitely in.” There was one aspect that the Florida lineman wish he saw more of. “I didn’t get to see around the city much, like the Maryland area. We did a dinner on Saturday night. Other than that, it was good. We hung around campus.”

Alexander-Felton also sat down with Thomas and defensive coordinator Brian Williams where they turned on the tape and dove into the fit. “I’m a versatile player so they see me playing along the defensive line, so I liked to hear that a lot.” The Florida lineman closed the weekend out with a sit down with head coach Mike Locksley at his house. “We went to his house for a bit at the end. That was great. He wasn’t really pressuring me, just seeing what I was thinking and what I liked, how it went. He’s a real cool dude.”

Maryland was the second school to host Alexander-Felton after he officially visited NC State last weekend. UCF is another in the mix, but heading into July, he’s taking a step back from recruiting.

“I’m going to take some time to process and get back to working out, get back to doing what I do. I’m dropping my top schools soon,” he said, adding that Maryland would make the cut.

Alexander-Felton is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 120^th-best prospect in Florida and the nation’s 99^th-best defensive lineman.
