Several former Terps looking to land in NFL as UDFAs

For the third straight year, Maryland has produced at least two picks in the NFL Draft. Offensive lineman DJ Glaze was the first to hear his name called in the third round when the Las Vegas Raiders took him 77th overall, while cornerback Tarheeb Still was the lone day three selection after the Las Angeles Chargers took him 137th overall.

Several more former Terps will look to find new homes as former Maryland safety Beau Brade, who was projected to go as high as round three, is now one of the top available undrafted free agents. Tracking where every former Terp lands:

May 3

Former Maryland WR Tyrese Chambers is headed to the Cleveland Browns ahead of next weekend’s rookie minicamp. Chambers arrived in College Park after a long college career that took him from juco to Sacred Heart then FIU before getting the chance to return home. After expecting to be an integral part of the receiving game, Chambers left the program midway through the season and began focusing on his pro career.

April 29

P Colton Spangler has been invited to the Baltimore Ravens rookie camp as he looks to become the second Maryland specialist in as many years to make it to the NFL (Chad Ryland, New England). Spangler ended his time at Maryland third in all-time career punting average (42.8) after appearing in every game available over the last four years. Spangler also notched 19 punts inside the 20 as a senior.

Sun., April 28

7:26 PM: QB Taulia Tagovailoa will head west to participate in the Seahawks’ rookie camp, per Mike Garafalo of NFL Network. The Seahawks also signed former Hawaii and San Jose QB Chevan Cordeiro as a UDFA on Saturday, while they also traded for Sam Howell this offseason with Geno Smith slated to return in 2024.

8:40 AM: Defensive tackle Tre Colbert is headed to Baltimore, Maryland announced on Sunday morning. After transferring into the program from Angelo State, Colbert appeared in every game in his lone season and started six as a Terp and became an integral piece to the Terps’ interior defensive line rotation. He forced and recovered a fumble in the non-conference finale win vs. Virginia, while he posted a pair of sacks at Northwestern.

Sat., April 27

9:46 PM: Offensive lineman Gottlieb Ayedze is signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, per Matt Zenitz. After four seasons at Frostburg, Ayedze arrived at Maryland and became an immediate contributor and started every Big Ten game at right tackle. The portal addition ended the season as the sixth-highest rated pass blocking tackle in the Big Ten with a 76.5 grade via PFF, while he went on to earn an invite in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Ayedze, a former unranked prospect out of Northwest, played one year of high school football after growing up playing soccer.

8:42 PM: Cornerback Ja’Quan Sheppard is headed to Las Vegas, teaming up with former Maryland OL DJ Glaze. The Raiders also have a pair of Terps on the roster in Jakorian Bennett and DJ Turner with Antonio Pierce headed into his first season as the full-time head coach. After transferring from Cincinnati, Sheppard joined the program in January and immediately stepped into a starting cornerback role before being named an honorable mention All-Big Ten.

8:15 PM: Safety Beau Brade is reportedly headed to Baltimore, signing with the Ravens over multiple suitors per reports. Brade, a former three-star recruit out of River Hill (MD), shifted his attention to the NFL after leading Maryland in total tackles in each of the last two seasons.

8:14 PM: WR Jeshaun Jones is headed to the Minnesota Vikings, per Andre DiCecco. After five seasons with the program, Jones was a key offseason priority for head coach Mike Locksley with a sixth season still available. After graduating with three degrees, Jones finished fifth all-time in school history for career receptions and receiving touchdowns and sixth all-time in receiving yards. After drafting former Michigan QB JJ McCarthy in the first round, the Vikings did not draft another receiver with both Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison set to return in 2024.

8:00 PM: IOL Corey Bullock was the first to find a new home after the Baltimore Ravens kept the Gwynn Park grad local. After transferring from NC Central, Bullock became a mainstay in the trenches after starting eleven games at left guard and earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors.
