VIP notes: big board mover, out-of-state four-star set to visit Maryland

Writer: Ahmed GhafirAhmed Ghafir

Maryland is sitting at 16 commitments after Evans (FL) four-star safety Brandon Jacob went public with his decision last week and with the dead period set to end, the Terps will look to maintain momentum into the end of July.

This one is overdue, but with commitment plans finalized, I’ve shifted Highland Springs (VA) three-star quarterback Khristian Martin to ‘hot’ on the big board with his announcement set for July 30. Virginia proved to be the biggest challenger heading into June, but it’s been Maryland who’s held the juice in Martin’s recruitment since his June 23 official to College Park. Assistant Latrell Scott helped pave the way to clear the Terps as the team to beat down the stretch, while his longstanding familiarity with the offense has been a key selling point that’s resonated with his camp. “Coach Gattis has had monstrous success in his offenses. Coach Locksley has coached multiple successful quarterbacks, so I mean, that speaks for itself when you have multiple quarterbacks that have played under you who have gone on to play at the next level, which is something I’d ultimately like to do. It shows that obviously, you’re doing something right because you’re putting guys at the next level,” Martin said following his OV. “Their word speaks for itself.”

Maryland will take one quarterback this cycle and with Maryland trending for Martin, four-star quarterback Trever Jackson will head elsewhere with Ole Miss and Oklahoma expected to host him for one-day unofficials next weekend.

If Martin does indeed head to Maryland, the Terps will be in a good spot with their class as they close on their priority targets heading into July. Maryland continues to work on four-star edge rusher Brian Robinson with Kentucky still looming as the biggest threat, but they’ve turned up the heat on both him and four-star edge Jaylen Harvey heading into August. The buzz Harvey is headed to Happy Valley this upcoming weekend, as will 2025 four-star defensive end Kamden Laudenslager, as Maryland and Penn State battle down the stretch. There’s also an expectation that wide receiver Mekahi White hits the road next weekend before finalizing a decision as Maryland is going all-out to win him down the stretch. West Virginia center Robby Martin placed Maryland in his top four with a decision set for July 31, but the Mountaineers have buzz heading down the stretch. Martin had been to College Park twice as the staff has kept tabs on the three-star center prepped for his senior season, but he needed to workout in College Park for his recruitment to progress. Martin took a pair of officials to West Virginia and NC State last month.

Meanwhile, 2025 Christiansburg (VA) three-star offensive tackle Carter Stallard will unofficially visit on Wednesday for his first trip to College Park. Maryland is already among the host of Power Five offers for the 6-foot-8 lineman, joining Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke and Louisville among others.

Maryland will also see a long list of underclassmen unofficially visit next Saturday with four-star defensive tackle Bryce Jenkins, who dominated in one-on-ones at the Under Armour Camp, set to visit campus along with another rising star set to return. 2026 Calvert Hall (MD) WR Chris Hewitt is set to return to campus on Saturday after becoming a familiar face in College Park since his freshman year. Both Maryland and Penn State are involved with the 5-foot-11 wideout with assistant Gunter Brewer making him a priority early on.

North Carolina lineman Trey Blue will also make his way up to campus for his first true visit as the Terps are among the first five offers early on. He will also visit Virginia Tech the day prior to seeing Maryland.

Two more early 2026 receivers heading to campus this weekend are Dyzier Carter and Jabari Brady. Brady, a 6-foot-2 wideout who posted a 4.39 in the 40 this spring, is already an early candidate to be among the best in the area in his class.

One out of state target expected to visit on Saturday who fans should take note of next cycle: four-star edge Austin Alexander. Austin, the nephew of former Seahawk legend Shaun Alexander, has made his way to Maryland on at least two other occasions including a camp as defensive coordinator Brian Williams has been able to establish a strong bond between them early. Kentucky and Louisville are two schools to watch early on but the Terps have made themselves an early player as Saturday gives Alexander a chance to further build the relationship off the field.Related Links
