VIP: two more top targets set September official visits to Maryland

Maryland basketball is searching for its first commitment in the 2024 class and after hitting the recruiting trail in July to watch their top 2024 and 2025 targets, the two more priority targets have set official visit dates.

Maryland already has one target coming to town in St. Rose (NJ) fringe four-star forward Matthew Hodge set to officially visit beginning September 14, while a source confirmed that four-star guard Jaeden Mustaf is set to officially visit Maryland the first weekend of September, first reported by On3 on Thursday. Mustaf has already wrapped up official visits to Georgia Tech, Indiana and NC State with Maryland the only other official visit set heading into the end of July. Assistant coach Mike Jones has driven the Terps pursuit in Mustaf’s recruitment since arriving in College Park and the relationship between Jones, Jaeden and Jerrod Mustaf is what’s propelled Maryland into the conversation. The relationship between the trio is strong as head coach Kevin Willard has remained consistent with the top-50 prospect, while the upcoming official visit gives Willard a chance to begin building a relationship with Jaeden’s parents. Maryland could ultimately be the final official visit with Mustaf’s camp content to wrap up the process in the fall. Arkansas is in the mix while Mustaf has previously visited Georgetown and Florida State, while taking three visits to check out Virginia Tech, but the Terps will get their crack at Mustaf who is fond of the idea of playing closer to home. Mustaf recently announced he will head to Overtime Elite for this upcoming season and is set to make the move in mid-August.

Another top target will also officially visit as a source tells IBG that 2025 four-star guard Efe Oliogu is set to officially visit Maryland the second weekend of September with assistant coach Greg Manning Jr. leading the way for the Terps’ pursuit. Oliogu, a 6-foot-5 guard, recently announced his transfer to DME Academy where he’ll officially move in next month as a 2025 prospect. But a source added that Oliogu is eligible to reclassify to 2024, though that decision is expected to be finalized during his senior season. Whether it’s 2024 or 2025, Maryland has been in hot pursuit with Manning’s connections and pursuit noted by Oliogu’s camp with the depth to the relationship carrying weight. Oliogu unofficially visited Maryland in early May to give him his first look at College Park and with a return visit set, the Terps have positioned themselves as the team to beat. Maryland is also the lone school with a set visit so far with Arizona State, Georgetown, Illinois and Missouri recently getting involved with the source adding the Hoyas have ramped up their pursuit since offering.

Both Mustaf and Oliogu are rated four-star prospects, with Mustaf a 95 overall and the 43rd best player in the 2024 class while Oliogu is a 97 overall and the 11th-best player in the 2025 class according to On3.
