For Tyrese Chambers, the chance to end his college career in College Park is a fitting ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eUcslTFppc The former Baltimore Poly standout was always interested in putting on the Maryland uniform, but it took time for Chambers to eventually land in College Park. After signing with Fort Scott JC out of high school, Tyrese Chambers transferred and played one season at Sacred Heart where he was named an FCS All-American and a Jerry Rice Award finalist after posting 811 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 50 catches as a true freshman. Chambers then transferred to FIU where he made a name for himself during the 2021 season. Chambers finished second in the country with an average of 23.87 yards per catch and finished with 1,074 yards and nine touchdowns on 45 catches—all setting new single-season program records. Chambers would hit the portal following the season and made it clear he was interested in suiting up in College Park, but still, the timing wasn’t right. Chambers wound up returning to FIU and finished with 47 catches for 507 yards and four touchdowns during the 2022 season, but he’d once again reopen his recruitment and hit the transfer portal again. “The portal was a fun experience, man. I didn't always have offers and stars and stuff coming out of high school so for me to be, you know, ranked and have all opportunities that I did, it was just a blessing man,” Tyrese Chambers added. With Maryland in need of restocking a room after three of its top four receivers departed for the NFL, it didn’t take long for Chambers and head coach Mike Locksley to reignite their mutual interest. “Coach Locks, that's my guy. We've been knowing each other for a long time now, and then we've just been communicating during those times when I was in the portal,” Chambers said. Between stepping into an impact role and the chance to suit up in his home state, it was always clear where Chambers wanted to suit up once he got the green light. “This is a dream come true, man. This has been my dream school since I was a child. It took me a couple years to get here, but I'm finally here, man. I'm finally here. I'm blessed and thankful.” He isn’t the only transfer receiver as he and former WVU wideout Kaden Prather have developed a close relationship in a short amount of time. It feels like we've known each other for so long and you know, I've only been here a couple months, but we feel like we've been playing together for a long time so that says a lot about our unit.” Chambers credited his new position coach, Gunter Brewer, while praising his new quarterback through the first weeks of spring ball. “Taulia is, he's special man. One of a kind type of quarterback, make variety of different throws. He puts the ball in good places, man, so it's been fun playing with him.” Now, Chambers is working on getting himself comfortable within the offense. “It’s been a little tough getting all the installs down and adjusting to the system. I played in a different system, so pretty much the same stuff, but just a little faster, a little more concepts.” While he makes the adjustments leading up to the spring game on April 29, the reality of Tyrese Chambers ending his college career as a Terp is a sentiment he cherishes heading into his final season. “I enjoyed that process, but I kind of already had it set in the back of my head where I wanted to be at. That's at my hometown.” Related Links
