With buzz that a decision isn’t far off, a commitment date is officially set for Brewster Academy (NH) four-star Sebastian Wilkins.
Wilkins, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward, is set to announce his decision on Friday, May 23rd at 4 PM. While Virginia also jumped into the picture, Wilkins is down to a final two of Maryland and Duke after officially visiting both schools over the last month. Maryland was also courtside to watch the reclass candidate at the Adidas 3SSB in Omaha this past weekend.
“I liked [the visit] a lot. I’ve grown a relationship with coach Buzz and the staff for a while now,” Wilkins said. “So just learning a little bit about Maryland and seeing the campus — it was nice. I really enjoyed seeing the arena they play in, the XFINITY Center. And just learning about some of their history and the players who played for the program.”
The four-star took an official visit to Maryland beginning Friday, April 11 as head coach Buzz Williams and his staff wasted no time also hosting portal targets once the dead period ended. Wilkins' visit also came alongside a familiar face in former Texas A&M and Mass Rivals guard, George Turkson, with the duo and incoming guard Andre Mills all close friends.
“We know each other very well,” Turkson said of Wilkins. “We played on the same AAU team for about two years so I’m very familiar with Sebastian, his parents. He’s a familiar face. We were both experiencing it for the first time. It was definitely a good experience for me and him.”
Leading Brewster Academy, Wilkins shined at the Chipotle Nationals in early April after posting 22 points and 13 rebounds in a win vs. CIA-Bella Vista to open the tournament. Brewster then fell in round two after Cayden Boozer’s buzzer beater lifted top-seeded Christopher Columbus High School over Brewster despite 14 points and game-high 12 rebounds from Wilkins. Wilkins was named one of 15 standouts from the tournament by ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, while he was previously named a First Team All-Conference selection in the EYBL.
“This is my 25th year at Brewster and Sebastian is probably one of my favorite guys to coach,” Brewster Academy Jason Smith told Mass Live back in January. “He’s mature beyond his years...he reminds me a lot of a former player I had years ago named Melvin Ejim. Melvin Ejim came off the bench the bench for us for two years, never complained. Was a captain, high energy, finished every game but didn’t start.”
Sebastian Wilkins is rated a four-star and 95 overall by On3.
