The list: priority recruits visiting Maryland for Charlotte game

After hosting a handful of priority targets for the season opener, Maryland will welcome several top 2025 targets to campus along with a big crew from St. Frances. Breaking down the list here:

‘24sFlowers (MD) three-star OT Mike Williams (Florida): the former Rock Creek and St. Frances lineman was high on Maryland early in the process and had the Terps on his shortlist after parting ways with South Carolina earlier this summer, but an official with Maryland never materialized and Williams moved ahead with his Florida pledge. Williams is expected to make his way to campus on Saturday with his brother. Brunswick (MD) OT Andrew Racosky: the 6-foot-7 tackle made his way to Maryland for the Big Man camp during the first weekend of June after hosting him for the spring game, though he doesn’t hold an offer yet. Churchill RB David Avit (Villanova): the impact player for Churchill, David is the younger brother of Maryland freshman WR Zeke Avit.

‘25sGood Counsel (MD) four-star SAF Faheem Delane: you could make an argument for Faheem as the best player in Maryland in 2025. Whether it’s in coverage, in the box or on special teams, Delane gets it done. He’s deservingly materialized into a coveted recruit out of Olney, MD and with OLB coach James Thomas leading the way, Delane will visit Maryland for the first game of the season. Gonzaga (DC) four-star SAF Kainoa Winston: if Delane is the best player in Maryland, Winston is the best player in DC. Winston does it all for the Eagles, even lining up as a QB in the wildcat. Winston is a top target in 2025 and after hosting Deuce Arnold last weekend, Winston heads to campus with his parents this weekend as DC Brian Williams leads as the area recruiter. Winston visited Penn State last weekend and both are expected to be major players in his recruitment. Toms River North (NJ) four-star OT Jaelyne Matthews (Penn State): Jaelyne announced his commitment to Penn State back in early January as the Terps were already among the schools to offer, but the four-star tackle hasn’t completely shut the door on his recruitment with Michigan, Florida and Florida State all jumping into the picture. This weekend will mark the first gameday visit for Matthews with Alabama and Georgia also working a flip. DeMatha (MD) three-star RB Bud Coombs: running backs coach Latrell Scott has been able to build a relationship early, but this one has been tight ends coach Kevin Sumlin whose done a great job putting the Terps in the top group early. Coombs is fond of the Terps beyond the local appeal and the consistency from the staff has made Maryland a player early. The speedy back will head to campus with his parents on Saturday night. Riverdale Baptist (MD) three-star IOL Jayvon McFadden: after taking on Bishop McNamara during the day, McFadden is expected to head to College Park in the evening for his second consecutive visit to Maryland in as many weeks. Michigan, Penn State and Miami (FL) are among the schools in the mix early as Maryland continues to sit in the top group. St. John’s (DC) four-star CB Tariq Hayer: this weekend will mark the third visit for the local four-star since the dead period ended in July. Hayer has been able to build a rapport with cornerbacks coach Henry Baker and DC Brian Williams throughout as he entertains his double-digit offer sheet in the midst of his junior season. Penn State is also heavily involved with the Cadet star. Friendship (DC) four-star DT Bryce Jenkins: the second visit for the local four-star since late July, defensive coordinator Brian Williams and head coach Mike Locksley have been able to leave an impression on the local two-way lineman. Jenkins’ future is likely along the defensive side of the ball, where his power and footwork with his 6-foot-4 frame has made him a coveted target. Rock Creek (MD) WR Aaron Lewis: WR coach Gunter Brewer has been able to build a connection with the local speedster as Lewis is no stranger to College Park. Lewis also made his way to College Park in early June for camp and visited for a game last fall. St. Michael (VA) ATH Zion Gray: Gray made his way to campus for multiple home games in 2022, so it’s no surprise to see the athlete target back at Maryland in week two. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson left an impression on Gray and his father early thanks to being the first offer. Calvert Hall DL Asaiah-Allan Hamond: Maryland hasn’t pulled the trigger on an offer, but the Calvert Hall lineman has made his way to campus twice this year as the staff monitors him through his junior year. Virginia Tech and Boston College have both extended offers early on. Paramus Catholic (NJ) IOL Malachi Goodman: Maryland extended an offer to the 6-foot-5 lineman on Monday afternoon, providing incentive enough for the junior to make his way to College Park. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (GA) QB Gavin Owens: Maryland hasn't offered Owens, but Charlotte has. They join Boston College, FAMU, Kentucky and Louisville with verbal offers early on as the 6-foot-4 quarterback hails from Gunter Brewer territory. After playing in Cali on Friday night, a long list of St. Frances prospects will make the shorter trip to College Park on Saturday night: 2024s: Three-star SAF Edrees Farooq (Tennessee) (Tennessee), three-star QB Mike Van Buren (Oregon), three-star LB Simeon Coleman (Cincinnati), St. Frances DT Santana Williams 2025s: Four-star DE Trent Wilson, three-star CB Blake Woodby, three-star LB CJ Smith, three-star SAF Jermichael Gillis, three-star CB Kevyn Humes 2026s: four-star SAF Jireh Edwards, CB Ja’Varr Stewart Trent Wilson, who began his career at St. John’s, has made himself familiar with College Park through multiple unofficial visits in the past alongside his dad as the duo returns to campus this weekend. DC Brian Williams leading the way early with inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson the area recruiter for the local four-star. Maryland has ground to make up early, which is similar to their standing with Blake Woodby. Van Buren is considered solid to Oregon, per a local contact, while Edrees Farooq will make his way to campus with both his parents. Explosive linebacker CJ Smith is also expected to visit with both of his parents as Notre Dame, Alabama, Miami (FL) and Colorado are involved with him early.
