Maryland football is set to renew its border rivalry against Virginia on Friday night for the third and final nonconference game of the 2023 season. The Terps will also do so with a long list of local talent back on campus, including several flip targets along the East Coast. We break down the names to know in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes.
Maryland will welcome several flip targets to campus with Jeremiah Marcelin (Pitt) making his way to campus for the first time since his summer official. Defensive coordinator Brian Williams has led the way and has maintained contact through the summer into fall, as Marcelin makes the trip with his mom along way teammate Larry Tarver headed to campus. Good Counsel duo, LB Aaron Chiles (Florida) and WR Elijah Moore (FSU), will both make their way to campus with Chiles’ parents expected to make the trip in. Maryland was along the sideline to watch Good Counsel pound Jones (FL) two weeks ago, while Florida assistant Jay Bateman made the trip to Olney one day after the Gators’ season-opening loss at Utah.
For the second consecutive week, four-star CB Braydon Lee (South Carolina) will be back on campus after taking an extended visit last weekend. DeJuan Lane (Penn St) has been nothing short of stellar to start his senior. Lane’s late June official to Maryland failed to materialize after pulling the trigger on his first visit, making this weekend his first visit since the spring. Four-star LB Gabe Williams (VT) will also make the trip in alongside Lane, while three-star safety Joshua Clarke (VT) is listed as a confirmed guest for this weekend.
The uncommitted targets are headlined by Quince Orchard (MD) four-star Jaylen Harvey, who has taken his recruitment longer than just about everyone had anticipated. It’ll still be at least a few more weeks with Harvey set to visit Maryland this weekend then Penn State next weekend as the top target continues to bounce around. Maryland will get a chance to roll out the red carpet once again this weekend after a USC visit for their season-opening win succeeded a pair of visits to Maryland, including his late June official. Other 2024 visitors include Archbishop Spalding (MD) WR and Holy Cross verbal RJ Newton, St. John’s (DC) safety Shamar McIntosh and Woodbridge (VA) WR Denzel Lambert who will be back on campus for the second consecutive week.
The 2025 class is headlined by Archbishop Spalding (MD) four-star QB Malik Washington and Salem (VA) four-star OL and top-100 prospect Jaylen Gilchrist as the top-200 prospects make their way to campus for their first visits of the season. Their visits shouldn’t overshadow St. John’s (DC) four-star CB Tariq Hayer and Good Counsel (MD) four-star SAF Faheem Delane, a pair of top-150 prospects who will visit for the second consecutive week, but Washington and Gilchrist arriving in College Park gives Maryland a chance to leave its impression. Washington has been able to build a rapport with OC Josh Gattis through the summer into fall while defensive coordinator Brian Williams leads the way as the area recruiter. Washington will head to Penn State next weekend. As for Gilchrist, this weekend will mark his first visit to Maryland as running backs coach Latrell Scott leads the way with the four-star tackle with a continued emphasis on Virginia recruiting.
Recruiting efforts in Virginia include Freedom (VA) ATH Jeff Overton, who will make the trip to campus with his head coach as Maryland has maintained consistent contact with the shifty running back. Maret (DC) IOL Grayson Reid has been eyeing this weekend to visit for weeks now with his game set for Thursday evening, as offensive line coach Brian Braswell has led the way. After an overnight trip last weekend, Flowers (MD) three-star WR Aaron Lewis is back on campus with the Terps entrenched in his top group early.
The Lawrenceville School (NJ) LB Samuel Lateju picked up an offer from cornerbacks coach and area recruiter Henry Baker on Thursday as he’ll turn around for a visit one day later. Meanwhile, Maryland was the first offer for Indian River (VA) WR Jakeyse Graves back as an eighth grader, while Latrell Scott extended the defensive back an offer back in January while at East Carolina.
Other local visitors include St. John’s (DC) edge Marcus Ogbogu, Mount St. Joe’s (MD) QB Ethan Houck, Old Mill (MD) ATH Brandon Stoner, Patriot (VA) IOL Joe Sipina and Cathedral (IN) ATH Devaughn Slaughter. While he doesn’t hold an offer, Houck has turned heads locally and is drawing Group of Five interest with his junior season underway.
In the 2026 class, Maryland will also host Flint Hill (VA) ATH Ty Harris, who they became the first Power Five offer for back in October, along with local Mt. Zion Prep (MD) duo in ATH JaShon McIntyre and WR Jyran Evans.
Maryland will also welcome several commits back on campus in Larry Tarver, Keion Flowers, Keyshawn Flowers, Lloyd Irvin, Ryan Howerton and Mekhai White. Tarver is a week removed from visiting Miami (FL) alongside his teammates, while Irvin has made himself a familiar face on campus daily through the fall. White isn’t far behind, making it to Maryland for all three home games while Howerton and the Flowers twins are expected to visit for their first gameday.
