Safety remains a focus on the defensive side for Maryland this cycle as the staff hosted another out-of-state target over the weekend. After co-defensive coordinator Brian Williams extended an offer back in early April, Rockwall-Heath (TX) safety Peyton Williams made it into College Park and was thoroughly impressed with the visit. Williams got a chance to walk through the new facilities with the coaches and his host, cornerback Tarheeb Still.
“I would have to say the facility it was amazing and the coaches and how they cared about the players and the players future if they don’t make the NFL beyond football”, Williams told Inside the Black & Gold. Safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Brian Stewart, the lead recruiter, had a chance to connect over the weekend while the message from head coach Mike Locksley resonated.
“His main message was being able to bring the best out [of] me out and being able to set me up for the future beyond football.”
Following the trip, Williams added Maryland and South Carolina hold an edge in his recruitment with the Gamecocks set to host him for an unofficial visit the weekend of June 18.
What is Williams looking for while choosing a school the most?
“Academics and being able to get my education while playing football”.
He has no timetable for a commitment just yet. Williams is currently rated a three-star and an 85 overall by 247, sitting as the nation’s 63rd-best safety. You can watch his highlights here.
