Maryland added recruiting connections in the Lone Star State when safeties coach Zac Spavital joined the staff back in March. Spavital hit the road recruiting last month back in the state where he’s coached over the last eight seasons, helping the Terps expand their recruiting board in the trenches. One new target who surfaced was Cy Falls (TX) offensive lineman Samir Camacho, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman as Maryland jumped into the mix exactly one month ago. After a shakeup in his visit schedule, Camacho is now set to officially visit Maryland this weekend. “I was going to go to Cal this weekend but I talked to my coach and my mom, we had a serious talk. Coach was telling me about the conference and how the offensive line coach moves around jobs,” Camacho told IBG. With Spavital leading the way, Camacho added the Terps have “made me feel like a priority quick” ahead of his first trip to College Park. “The conference and Maryland, I have some family over there maybe two hours away. Overall, I like the area. I haven’t been over there, but I’ve been around the area so that was why. Plus I want to meet the staff, coaches, see how I feel around everybody. I talk to coach Spav a lot. Really genuine guy. I think his brother is also really close with one of my coaches too.” TCU became the latest school to offer after Camacho camped on Tuesday, joining Arkansas State, Houston, Arizona State, Purdue and Memphis among others but the Texas lineman has potentially three more official visits set. “Next week I think I’m going to Kansas and Duke. It was supposed to be only Duke, but I might do Kansas so I’ll have a serious talk with my mom about it. Then after Duke, it’ll be UTSA then that’s about it.” Camacho was adamant a commitment won’t come coming out of his first official visit with plans to take the next step in July. “I’ll probably do a top ten by July then I was thinking about committing on my birthday, August 27.” Samir Camacho is not yet rated by On3, but is a three-star and an 85 overall by 247Sports.
