Local guard feels wanted during latest trip to Maryland

Weeks after making the short trip to unofficially visit Georgetown, 2025 Gonzaga (DC) four-star guard Nyk Lewis followed through on his trip to Maryland as he got a closer look at the Terps’ roster before sitting down with the coaching staff.

“We watched practice, I walked through the facilities and took a little photoshoot,” Lewis told IBG. “I saw Deshawn [Harris-Smith] from PVI. I talked to him for a little after practice too. They were going through a really intense guard workout so it was very nice to see.” Having already been familiar with the Terps’ arena and gameday atmosphere, Lewis’ time around campus and watching practice was what gave the priority local guard a different look at the program. “Just really how college basketball players live their life outside of basketball. And I got to see the intensity of college workouts.”

Lewis has previously credited the Terps’ style of play as reason why he sees a fit within the program, but Monday’s visit gave Lewis a chance to learn where he stands on the staff’s recruiting board.

“I sat down with coach Willard, Mike Jones and coach Cox. He talked about the future, where he sees me in the program and a lot of that stuff. They said I’m the future and that I’m one of the only point guards they’re recruiting. They can see me playing in the Big Ten and I fit their program really well.”

Lewis doesn’t have any visits planned for the next few weeks, but the Maryland staff will get a chance to sit courtside to watch him in action later this month. “They said they’re going to see me at the Elite 100 camp and DMV Live.”

Nyk Lewis is rated a four-star prospect and a 96 overall by On3, sitting as the 32nd-best player in the 2025 class.
