Recruits Chime in on Jones-Hill House

Updated: Feb 5, 2022

Maryland brought in a host of talent on Friday as tours throughout the day brought in talent across the DMV with official visitors trickling in. 2023 four-star defensive tackle Will Norman was a surprise visitor while 2024 IMG cornerback Desmond Ricks made the trip with Oscar Smith wide receiver Amonte Jones and four-star safety Sherrod Covil.

But the Terps’ first commit in the 2022 class was back on campus as Wilson (NJ) wide receiver Amari Clark made the trip with new teammate and longtime friend Nyair Graham as Clark remembered what led to his decision back in August. “I mean I already knew that I loved the place and what I saw made me love it more and the whole campus is lit,” Clark told Inside the Black & Gold. “I can’t wait to come up again and the new locker room is fire, the new coaches’ office is fire. Now it’s time for the team and players snap and bring a chip home.” Schools like Rutgers haven’t given up in his recruitment but he backed his verbal pledge.

“I’m 100% lock in with all of them I connect easy with a lot of them just by them keeping it real with me and letting me know how everything is at College Park.”

The Terps have strong relationships with four-star safety Sherrod Covil and that helped bring him onto campus on day one of the Jones-Hill House unveiling. He spent ample time with co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Brian Stewart today and that left an impression. “The new football facility that just got put in. And I like Locks and Stewart a lot.” Covil will also take trips to Penn State, Ohio State, and Clemson this month.

Four-star wide receiver Shaleak Knotts made the trip in from North Carolina and is set to return the final weekend of June for his official. “I love it,” he added.

Norman was impressed with his first trip to College Park. “They’re actually wonderful, more than I expected to be there honestly.” He too admitted it was too tough to pick just one part that stuck out. “The locker room. The updated weight room and the crazy locker room,” he added. “The reclining seats and iPhone charging tables.”

DeMatha five-star defensive end Jason Moore was able to get on campus and meet with the coaching staff for the first time while rekindling the connection with former head coach Elijah Brooks. “It was great, that new building is amazing.” It was hard for him to name just one thing he liked most. “That’s so hard to answer. I liked everything but I’ll have to go with that weight room.” Moore also got a chance to meet cornerbacks coach Henry Baker on Friday. “Yes, I did and had a lot of good conversations with them. It felt great to get back around and finally meet most of them in person for the first time.”
