Maryland Signee Named First Team All-Conference

Writer: Ahmed GhafirAhmed Ghafir

The Baltimore Catholic League announced their all conference and a future Terp made the cut. St. Frances point guard and Maryland signee Jahnathan Lamothe was named a first team selection after guiding the Panthers to a 25-10 overall record and a 11-3 conference record. The 6-foot-4 combo guard is coming off the regular season finale game where he finished with 57 points while hitting 16 three pointers, setting a school record. While that was his best performance of the season so far, Lamothe has had other notable outings this season as well. Lamothe finished with 25 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists against Glenelg Country, as well as 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assist against Mount Carmel. "Just being the hometown kid and coming to make my mark," said Lamothe on why he chose Maryland. "Coach Willard is with the guys all the time working out, eating and coach Skinn, Tevon Saddler, coach Cox all have a lot of energy." Lamothe is very much a high energy and a gritty player that does anything he needs to do to help his team win. He is a great rebounder from the guard position and is great at making shots from deep, which is something the Terps have struggled mightily with this season and will be looking to fix next season. Lamothe is ranked 135th nationally and the third best player in Maryland according to On3. While Lamothe plays point guard for St. Frances, he is projected to be a shooting guard for head coach Kevin Willard the Terps next season. He’s among a trio of signees that Willard locked down heading into year one with the future featuring local talent. Along with Kaiser, Lamothe was back in College Park last week for Maryland’s upset over Purdue. Lamothe and the Panthers will play in the BCL tournament at Goucher College beginning March 3rd.
