Maryland has been monitoring TRU Prep Academy (FL) cornerback Larry Tarver through the spring as defensive coordinator Brian Williams made the trip to watch Tarver’s track practice last weekend. After months of interest, Maryland officially jumped into the mix and became a contender while cornerbacks coach Henry Baker is building his relationship with his new target.

“I’ve been hearing from both of them,” Tarver told IBG. “The coaches kept hitting me up so I wanted to lock that in. Excited to get up there and see what it’s about.” Along with the consistent interest from Baker and Williams, Tarver took notice of Maryland’s cornerbacks who came off the board during the NFL Draft back in August. “That’s where I want to be so that definitely played a role in my interest. They’ve told me I’m a top priority. They want me up there not just to visit, but to actually go there and I feel that too. They put guys in the league, so why not check them out?”

Tarver will kick off his official visits with a trip to Texas A&M next weekend, June 9, for his first trip to College Station. Tarver will then head to Maryland for his official visit the weekend of June 23 as he added the Aggies and Terps are the main two schools he’s looking at, which is notable considering the 5-foot-11, 160-pound cornerback announced her verbal to FIU in late April. Tarver wasn’t shy about admitting that the door is open for both Power Five programs to flip his pledge.

“I’m just looking for the right school. I’d say my recruitment is 100% open, just trying to find the best fit for me. I’m just looking for that one school where I feel like ‘this is it.’ I’m trying to wait until after these visits then try and decide.” Larry Tarver is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by On3, sitting as the 195th-best prospect in Florida. Tarver recorded a 10.65 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.55 in the 200 meters this spring. Related Links
