In the latest chapter in Taulia Tagovailoa's offseason, the former Maryland quarterback followed through on what head coach Mike Locksley hinted at weeks ago: Taulia entered the transfer portal on Friday afternoon, according to multiple reports. The behind-the-scenes rumors were given credence when head coach Mike Locksley noted the transfer portal was a possibility during an appearance last month on 105.7. “I’ve addressed and kind of felt that way the last couple of years and so, when he came and sit down and made the decision that he didn’t want to play in the bowl game in an effort to pursue future opportunities, whether it’d be the NFL, whether it’d be transferring if in fact there were more time available,” Locksley said on 105.7 on Thursday. “It was a pretty easy conversation because the mutual respect was there. He’s done enough and has done what we needed him to do for our program and we’re very thankful, but at the same time we’ve also given him a huge platform to showcase the abilities that we all come to love.” Miami (FL) has long been the school rumored around Taulia should he enter the transfer portal, but after one season at Alabama and four in College Park, On3 previously reported that both Alabama and Maryland would need to sign off on a waiver to entertain a potential sixth season. Which begs the question, will that come to fruition? There remains skepticism that will ultimately happen given he's exhausted his eligibility--and even acknowledged so in the latter half of the season. "I don't think I have any years left of eligibility left, do I? I think this has to be the last one," Taulia said heading into the Michigan game. Still, Taulia ends his career at Maryland as the Big Ten's all-time leading passer with 11,256 yards and has shattered the single-season and career program record book, earning an All-Big Ten selection in each of the last two seasons.
