After a disappointing 2023 season, head coach John Tillman and Maryland men’s lacrosse will look to bounce back in 2024 as the program announced the upcoming schedule with the season opener one month away. Brown is the only opponent on the 2024 schedule that Maryland did not face last season, while three of last year’s Final Four teams will square off against the Terps this spring.
Maryland will also get a chance to avenge last year’s losses against Loyola (MD), Notre Dame and Michigan, starting in week one.
Maryland will open the season on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Richmond before hosting the Terps look to reclaim bragging rights when they host Loyola (MD) the following week. Maryland, who defeated Syracuse last year at SECU Stadium, will then make the trip north to take on the Orange. Sandwiched in between home games against Princeton and Brown is a road trip against Notre Dame, the defending champion, before Maryland closes out its nonconference schedule against Virginia on March 18.
The Big Ten Tournament begins on April 27 with quarterfinals on campus followed by the semifinals and championship game at Ohio State in Columbus, OH on May 2 and 4, respectively.
The NCAA Tournament begins with games on May 11 and 12 on campus. The NCAA Quarterfinals will be held at Hofstra and Towson on May 18 and 19. The semifinals and final will be played in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field on May 25 and 27, respectively.

Maryland finished 10-6 (3-2) in 2023 before watching the season end in a first-round loss at home vs. Army, marking only the second time since 2007 that the Terps failed to make it to the second round. While Maryland returns multiple key pieces like attackman Braden Erska, faceoff man Luke Wierman and defenseman Ajax Zapitello, head coach John Tillman dipped into the portal to restock the midfield in Griffin King (Brown) and Nick Alviti (Vermont), while Maryland returns attackman Eric Malever and goalie Logan McNaney in 2024 after both were sidelined with season-ending injuries last season.
Maryland hired Jared Bernhardt, a former Maryland star, as the new director of player development. He joined his brother, defensive coordinator Jesse Bernhardt, on staff while Jake Bernhardt left the staff to become the head coach of the Colby Mules. Maryland turned to Michael Phipps, an ’07 graduate, as the new assistant coach/offensive coordinator in late December after coaching at Navy and Georgetown.
