Men’s Soccer
23rd-ranked Maryland men’s soccer continued its unbeaten streak to start the 2025 season, defeating Pitt 2-1 and then tying against Penn State 2-2. The Terps came close to defeat in the second half against the Nittany Lions when they allowed Penn State to score two goals. But after the Terps were awarded a free kick late in the second half, senior Lasse Kelp fired the goal that tied the game.
"I have very mixed feelings with today's match. Very proud of the team to come back and get a tie and really push for the win in the last few seconds. Really gritty performance by our guys late in the game," head coach Sasho Cirovski said.
Now undefeated through two games for the fourth consecutive season, Maryland looks to extend the hot start when Northwestern heads to Ludwig Field on Friday night at 7 PM.
Women’s Soccer
After a rocky start to their season, Maryland women’s soccer was able to secure two consecutive home wins against Indiana 2-1 and Purdue 2-1 after a three-game losing streak. "It's nice to get back-to-back wins. I think everybody watching can see our girls are absolutely emptying the tank. They're leaving everything out there," head coach Michael Marchiano said after the win against Purdue.
Indiana took the lead in the second half but not for long until the Terps tied the game and freshmen Mckinley Heaven’s late goal secured the Terps first conference win of the 2025 season. Heaven also helped keep Maryland in the lead against Purdue when she found the net later in the second half, giving the Terps their second goal of the game. She was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the first since 2023.
The consecutive wins moved Maryland to 6-4 overall, marking the most season wins since finishing 9-8-3 in 2019 with head coach Michael Marchiano looking to turn the program around in his first full season as head coach. Maryland will head across the country to face University of Southern California on Thursday at 10 PM.
Volleyball
Maryland volleyball finished strong in its last nonconference matchup against Seton Hall, winning 3-0. Senior Ajack Malua helped the Terps with 11 kills in total, becoming the first Terp since Erika Pritchard in 2019 to record 20+ kills in a match while hitting .400. She wasn’t alone as senior Ally Williams led defensively with 16 digs, which has been a vital part of the Terps’ success so far this season. Maryland is also ranked first defensively in the Big Ten with 120.5 team blocks this season.
The Terps, now sitting 7-3 overall, will hit the road to take on Iowa, who sits 9-3 overall, for their first conference game Thursday at 7 PM.
Field Hockey
Tenth-ranked Maryland field hockey had a strong start to open conference play against Penn State with a 3-1 win. Junior Josie Hollamon fired off the first goal for the Terps at the end of the first period, and freshman Jordyn Hollamon made the next goal in the third period, giving Maryland an early lead from the sisters. "I get a lot of emotions from playing with Jordyn. She is doing a great job and I just hope she can keep going and getting better as we get into the season," Josie Hollamon said.
Jordyn Hollamon was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. The Terps will stay home to face 12th-ranked Michigan on Friday at 5 PM.
