Maryland football redshirt freshman defensive lineman DD Holmes was arrested for driving under the influence in the early hours on Wednesday morning.
“We are aware of an incident involving Daniel Holmes and are handling it internally,” a Maryland Athletics spokesperson told IBG.
Holmes faces six counts for his arrest outside Looney’s, including ‘driving vehicle while impaired by alcohol’, ‘driving vehicle while under the influence of alcohol per se’, ‘driving vehicle while under the influence of alcohol’, ‘driving vehicle while so far impaired by alcohol cannot drive safely’,, ‘negligent driving vehicle in careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life and person’ and ‘reckless driving vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for safety of persons and property.’ He could face $1,000 in fines and up to one year in jail if convicted.
Holmes has appeared in all four games this season, registering one tackle against NIU, Towson and Wisconsin along with a quarterback hit vs. FAU.
A Gonzaga (DC) product and priority target out of high school, Holmes transferred into the program from Florida State this offseason where the longtime local target was expected to become a factor into the defensive line rotation.
“[Jordan Phillips] really made an impact on DD and I think they chose the correct person for DD," Holmes' mother told IBG after his first official visit.
