Maryland men's basketball misses the cut for portal guard Bryce Lindsay

Maryland men’s basketball is coming off its first recruiting weekend under head coach Buzz Williams with eight transfer portal commits already in the fold, but one notable target is officially off the board.

Former Texas A&M and James Madison guard Bryce Lindsay trimmed his list to Clemson, Florida, Indiana, Miami (FL), Vanderbilt, Villanova and USC on Sunday night, eliminating Maryland from consideration. The news came one day after former Montana guard Malik Moore committed to Xavier, crossing off another potential guard target with seven open scholarships left to fill.

“You mentioned James Madison, my daughter graduated from James Madison last year. Coach [Mark] Byington did an unbelievable job at Vanderbilt this past year. Coach [Preston] Spradlin did an unbelievable job this year at James Madison and there was a player on our team who was sixth man of the year at James Madison in that conference who redshirted at Texas A&M the previous year, who’s from Baltimore,” head coach Buzz Williams said on Sunday on the Wizards’ broadcast.

Maryland still has a restocked backcourt with former Kansas guard David Coit, former Indiana guard Myles Rice, former Washington State guard Isaiah Watts and former Texas A&M guard Andre Mills all in the fold after Texas A&M big man Pharrel Payne, ranked the 35th-best portal prospect this cycle, kicked off the offseason as the first commitment.

Meanwhile, after watching four-star Sebastian Wilkins take an official visit to College Park this past weekend, Maryland is expected to turn at least a portion of its attention back to the high school ranks this week with 2025 four-star Kelvin Odih, a former West Virginia commit, expected to visit beginning Thursday, April 17. Odih is also taking an official visit to Utah beginning Monday, April 14.
